Old Course Cannes Mandelieu
Located near the famous city of Cannes, Golf Old Course Cannes Mandelieu is accessible within 30 minutes’ drive from Nice Airport. Founded by Grand Duke Michael Mikhailovich of Russia the course is one of the oldest golfing layouts in France.
The Grand Duke Michael of Russia discovered the pleasure of golf on a trip to the Old Course in St Andrews, one of the oldest courses in the world and took it into his head to found the first golf course of the Côte d'Azur and he called on Harry Colt to design a 9-hole course called the “Grand Duke” which still exists alongside the 18-hole golf course to this day.
Harry Shapland Colt, born in 1869 in Highgate in England, is considered as one of the best architects of his era. A true pioneer in this domain, he is the “true father of golf course architecture. The list of his creations constitutes an honour list… according to the famous golf architect Donald Steel and the Old Course, Cannes Mandelieu is no exception.
Founded in 1891 by the Duke Michael of Russia and visited by all the European crowned heads, the Old Course Golf Cannes Mandelieu is a mythical place of the Côte D’Azur. The 18 holes are nestled between the mountains and the Mediterranean Sea. Between the fairways and the emerald greens, this course will seduce you due to its peaceful environment and the quality of the landscape.
While playing under the shade of century-old pine trees you will surprisingly discover the special feature of the Old Course. One of the highlights of this course is that you will be able to cross the Siagne River in a ferry that will take you from hole 2 to hole 3 and from hole 12 to hole 13 – a unique experience!
To this day the “Grand Duke” and “Old Course” are firm favourites with royalty and celebrities alike and every year the 18-hole course plays host to some of the most prestigious competitions on the Côte d'Azur.
