Hotel Information (Moulin de l’Abbaye, Brantôme)

In Brantôme, the Venice of the Périgord, this ivy-clad mill is one of the most delightful places in the Dordogne. The vista takes in the impressive bridge, a 16th century masterpiece, the monastery garden, the medieval tower, the Renaissance pavillion and the famous abbey founded by Charlemagne. The eight deluxe rooms in the mill are elegant and cosy, and the light-filled dining room opens out onto a terrace on the river banks. With an additional 12 doubles in two other older buildings the stage is set to enjoy this romantic, magical setting in one of the most beautiful towns of France.

Day One

Relax with direct flights to Bordeaux, on arrival you will meet your private driver for a transfer to the hotel. Once settled into this grand boutique hotel we will take you on a walking tour of Perigord where you will sample some fantastic wine and food of the region and viist the Black Truffle museum.

Day Two

This morning, your chauffeur and accompanying wine guide will collect you at your hotel or villa in Pergord and take you to the pretty vine-lined narrow lanes to the beautiful 16th century Châteaux de Monbazillac. Pop into their wine museum, which features not only wine history but also the story of Protestantism in the region and an exhibition on the thousand castles of the Perigord. Taste an array of honeyed Monbazillac wines, not a bad way to start the day!

Your next stop will be an estate, dating back to the Hundred-year war where you will tour the vineyard with the winery owner himself and finish off with a tasting of their wide range of wines, from sweet Monbazillacs to dry whites and reds and taste the most highly awarded wine in the region.

You will be quite ready for lunch next, and we have a fabulous lunch at La Tour des Vents, a Michelin-starred gastronomic restaurant in the heart of the Monbazillac vineyards with exceptional views.

The rest of the day will be spent visiting an organic winery in the region, Haut Garrigue. With the friendly owners themselves, you will tour the vineyard, learn about biodynamic viticulture, and their unique vineyard share program, then sit down to a relaxed and informal tasting of their best wines. Alas, in the early evening, your driver will drop you back at your hotel or villa.
