Luxury Golf Holidays Edinburgh & Lothians

Edinburgh, East Lothian

With 21 courses along 30 miles of stunning coastline, not to mention a golf-friendly micro climate all of its own, it’s little wonder that East Lothian is known as Scotland’s Golf Coast. Partnered with some stunning city courses within Edinburgh there are options available for golfers of any level of experience.

While many focus on the golfing delights to be found on the north side of the Firth of Forth in the Kingdom of Fife, it should not be forgotten that the coastline on the other flank of the Firth is home to the largest concentration of links golf courses anywhere in the world, and they’re strung out like pearls in a necklace from Aberlady through to Dunbar.

Scotland's Golf Course

East Lothian bills itself as 'Scotland's Golf Coast' and one look at a map of the region is enough to confirm the legitimacy to that claim. Located just 30 minutes from Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland, the region is home to over 20 superb courses to play.

One of those is Musselburgh Links, one of the oldest courses in the world. Evidence demonstrates that golf was played there as early as 1672. For that reason alone, it's a truly unmissable experience. The area is also home to Muirfield, the home of the world's oldest golf club and a regular host venue for the Open Championship, whilst Gullaine, with its three superb courses, is also close by.

Two more relatively new East Lothian courses are at Archerfield Links and the Renaissance. The former is home to two sumptuous courses - the Direlton and Fidera - whilst the latter features a Tom Doak designed golf course that is tipped by many to host big tournaments in the future.

City of Edinburgh Courses

As Scotland's capital city, it is no surprise that Edinburgh is immensely popular throughout the year. It also happens to be home to numerous golf courses within the city limits.

The Dalmahoy is a great place to start. Its sits just 7 miles from the city centre and is one of the most distinguished and celebrated venues Scotland has to offer. Bruntsfield Links Golf Society is the forth oldest golf club in the world and is a delightful course that sprawls through 150 acres of mature parkland and offers great views of the Firth of Forth.

Murrayfield, which sits next to Edinburgh Zoo and a stone's throw from the national rugby stadium, is one of the hidden jewels with fantastic 360 panoramas of the City and Fife. The City of Edinburgh Council also controls six superb municipal courses, with something to suit players of all standards.
